"The Federal Trade Commission charged home security camera company Ring with compromising its customers’ privacy by allowing any employee or contractor to access consumers’ private videos and by failing to implement basic privacy and security protections, enabling hackers to take control of consumers’ accounts, cameras, and videos."

devin_ceartas,

@metacurity @_L1vY_ Wow, that's messed up. I added it as a link and comment to my write-up on home security cameras, something I wrote to share with the activists I help provide community security for: https://www.patreon.com/posts/security-cameras-80827480

Worth noting that there are some commercially available systems, like some from Eufy, which will work with your smartphone but have the option to work on your local wifi network without storing the data in the cloud.
