@stux it seems like windows copilot has a lot of potential issue with privacy. People have a tendency to fork over tons of information to chat it's without realizing it goes to the cloud. It being built into windows will make this even worse.
@stux
OTOH, having a whole infrastructure in a state of the art data center is really really expensive so the pay-as-you-go model makes sense for a lot of people. Not individuals, but companies yes, unless there are confidentiality or regulatory barriers
We have customers who have their servers not even connected to the internet! Those are mostly banking, and to them the cloud is a clear no-go
@stux
Yeah. I refused to work (directly) for banks, mainly for ethical reasons, but there's also this. You can't do a damn thing without pages and pages of paperwork, and even then...
Yes I seriously turned down recruiters who called me when I was unemployed as soon as they told me it was for banks. Now I work for a free software editor, feels much better ethically, even though many users are unethical (banks, ads, you name it)
@stux All that horsepower (and the energy to run it), mostly being misused. Argh.
And don't forget, it's free now but once a bunch of companies cannot run without it ... it will no longer be free.
