Note re: Tusky 24: Last year I was trying to contribute to Tusky by implementing one small, standalone feature per release (other team members do much more! but I'm still unsteady with Android dev). At the START of 2023, I decided my project was going to be upgrading our video player. This turned into a HUGE project that took literally all year and a lot of additional work by Nik Clayton but it's in now! Tusky now uses MODERN ANDROID VIDEO instead of ANCIENT ANDROID VIDEO https://mastodon.social/@Tusky/111529747149677651
Anyway short version is I am incredibly relieved and excited we finally got the Exoplayer conversion done, and also if you have any problems with video playback or video UI in Tusky 24, you can complain to me directly, and I will immediately burst into tears. But then probably I will try to fix the problem.
(Probably you should not notice any difference, except that you can play back videos in Tusky at fast speed or slow speed. But theoretically video compatibility should be better now.)
UPDATE: It turns out the first report of a major bug in the new video playback was sent in to us exactly two minutes before I made the above post lolsob. (Fortunately it's slightly situational.) Anyway we'll be looking at it.
Update on above thread, the "major bug" in the Tusky 24 video playback I mentioned (phone could go to sleep while you were playing videos) is now fixed as part of the 24.1 release.
@drmorr Yeah… our old video player would set the no-sleep condition automatically, but the new player does not. And we didn't know we had to add a no-sleep condition ourselves as a result.
