If you're using DuckDuckGo on Firefox or a Firefox-derived browser on Android, make sure that the Dark Reader addon is disabled for DDG. I just found out that it was the source of the big slowdown when trying to do searches.
Now I'm back on DuckDuckGo for my searches, and I don't have to put up with Brave search's bizarre and disturbing AI suggestions.
I like Ecosia, but I'm a bit hung up on DDG's !bangs feature. It's super convenient to automatically hit Wikipedia, image search, Wolfram alpha, and whatnot with just a simple two or three character code at the beginning
@RL_Dane Yeah, I've been trying around with some other search engines again and gone back to ddg as well, it seems to be the one that works the best for me at the moment. And I don't touch anything brave creates, so they are on to the next fad after they burned out on shitcoins?
I actually liked brave's results as much or better than DDG/Bing's, but there were two annoyances:
It had no image search. It could redirect you either to Google or Bing Images, but not to a privacy-respecting search engine. My work around was to use bangs: "!d!i search criteria"
The first bang relays everything to DDG, at which point DDG saw there "!i" image bang, and everything else worked from there on.
@RL_Dane Dark Reader tends to slow down page load in general, some sites more affected than others, I've noticed. :) But now that you mention it, in my phone DDG is really fast, but not in my laptop... It may take a while. I don't have Dark Reader in my laptop, but maybe another addon may be the culprit, I have to check this. ;)
