I received a Google Open Source Peer Bonus award, which was a pleasant surprise. :) Thinking of ways to reinvest it into Emacs and the community to see what a little money earmarked for that could do. People have already donated enough to #EmacsConf to cover hosting costs, so that's all sorted out. Might see how USD ~250 could be used to help me make more blog posts and videos. Could start with experiments with speech recognition or NLP/AI for outlining/summarizing/cleaning up my audio braindumps. Paying for cloud usage will let me do tiny experiments without upgrading my X230T for now. We'll see!

Also uhhhh you're using an X230T? Absolutely no shade about keeping a beloved system running for a very long time but, like... can we drop a couple of bucks in your "get @sachac a new monster of a machine" jar?
@gnomon The CPU isn't usually my limiting factor, time is. <laugh> I usually have maybe an hour of focused time in the morning if I'm lucky, and then the rest of time is mostly parenting with a few squeezed-in moments when the kiddo just wants to read or chill out. Not much point in having an awesome computer sit idle on the kitchen counter. I often get tempted to upgrade in the lead-up to EmacsConf, but this year I didn't even feel much of a twinge of hardware envy because both OBS streams ran off a server and the Whisper captioning was on the server too. Someday the kid will grow up and I'll have more time. Then it might make sense to use the savings I've been setting aside for gear. :) Maybe by then people smarter than me will have figured out the Linux laptop+GPU+AI thing, or maybe the landscape will be completely different!
@sachac So happy to hear you were recognized! Your leadership and generosity (especially in terms of time) inspire me to do more in my own life in my communities.
