The CPAP I got as replacement for the recalled CPAP has been recalled 🥸

In both cases very simple and obvious engineering design flaws that turned out to be dangerous.

Philips used sub-par foam that can be inhaled and cause cancer.

ResMed used magnets on the mask that injured people with other medical devices (e.g. pacemaker).

Engineer things better, dammit.

My old Phillips conked out on me back in Oct. 2019, a month b4 I was to move to Albuquerque from TX. American Home Patient said: "oh, yes, lot of those are bad. I can switch you to a new one, but they are out of stock." I said that I leave in 3 weeks, she says no problem. Never heard from them again. Covid hits months after I get to NM, my machine is on the fritz, and I don't know how much longer it will keep working, as it shuts off once and awhile. I decide to sign up for my VA benefits; end up getting a new ResMed one which works fine. Have had it about 4 yrs. Fingers crossed. carry on

@BillMcGuire it’s a machine that blows air in your face, how hard is it to engineer

@thomasfuchs Is it a full recall or are they telling people to with said devices to exercise caution or use some other mask setup?

@profoundlynerdy it should be a full recall but they’re doing an “announcement”.

The Philips thing two years ago started like that as well until they were forced to exchange the actual machines, so who knows how this one will go.

@thomasfuchs This is proof there need to be open source CPAP machines.

@profoundlynerdy

No, we need better quality control across the board and open source processes and grading that are established by independent bodies.

Open source, in that particular case, is a distant second.

I say this as someone who went through the exact same recalls as
@thomasfuchs

@thomasfuchs My resmed mask has no magnets. What model do you use?

@ices air touch f20

Weird, my f20 came with a warning about other medical devices. I wonder what they'll do with the recall. Hopefully not remove the magnets because I highly prefer them over the loops.
