Didn’t think it needed mentioning but just incase you, or someone dear to you, believes in “anonymous SIMs”…
Let me be very brief: Such a thing does not exist.
Remaining sufficiently hard-to-track (in mobile networks) in order to keep your opsec intact is at least an order of magnitude harder than you might think, and fucking up can happen easily silently and irrevocably. Treat the offer of an “anonymous SIM” with the utmost suspicion - if it’s not outright a trap it is at least ill informed.

@nblr is that in response to the folks who want to spread SIMs at Congress, i.e. is that what they plan on doing? If so, pitch!

@danimo Just overheard someone discussing "anonymous SIMs" and had to do a wellakshually, because this wellakshually might save lifes.
No idea about the congress, I'm not there.

Just for clarification before I wake up to lengthy comments. Yes. You can get a pseudonymous SIM. i.e. one registered for someone else or for "nobody in particular", it still is a smart card with a unique id that offers more robust authentication than your government ID card. No matter the name, which, in case of some dubious sources, might just be an added red flag. i.e. all cards from this source might receive executive scrutiny. It's an unnecessary game and a risky and hard one to play right.

cccfr,

@nblr adding also: there is is this nasty unique imsi number in almost all phones - which is trackable. remembering cases where this was used to pinpoint some baddies in italia. So regardless the sim, you also have to protect imsi / device and not crossconnect it to anything at anytime.

@nblr I go the other way, I registered all my families SIM cards on my name. Not that it helps, but I love to screw around.

@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@MSugarhill I have a multi-SIM contract and half a dozen decoys are walking around with my SIMs :D
Wouldn't use for anything critical either, but noise is good!

@nblr that's my thinking. Tbh, it was rather a practical decision. when (grand)parents needed new contracts it was easier to register myself than hurry them through.

@nblr bin mir ziemlich sicher ich kann hier SIMs kaufen die dann von irgendwelchen onkeln der cousins des bruders etc etc registriert werden

nblr,
@nblr@chaos.social avatar
