Please do not do this. It’s not as amusing to your coworkers as you think. It does not help your coworkers intuit what your services do. Names are a UI. Be accessible.
And in the case of Harry Potter, the references also do not age well. 🏳️⚧️
@Jeremiah@anderseknert We used to have servers named for characters from Babylon 5. Security was great, because nobody could remember how to spell them!
@Jeremiah I'm old enough to remember when universities used to name their computers after planets, or Tolkien characters. It didn't take long for there to be more computers than names.
HP needs to fade into obscurity and the fans to grow up.
@spodlife@Jeremiah I worked at AT&T many years ago. In the division I worked in, all the machines were named for unpronounceable, impossible to spell, Babylonian deities. It was the worst.
