Harvard grad here. Stupid question, but which president was it that said women’s were no good at the math and science stuff? Is it the one now in charge of the future of AI? I don’t know, my silly little girl brain can’t keep all the misogyny straight.

@gretared Are you thinking of Lawrence Summers? https://www.theguardian.com/science/2005/jan/18/educationsgendergap.genderissues

*I don't assume he's the only one. My silly little lady brain can't keep track of all the misogyny, either.

@ShaulaEvans @gretared

Apparently in 2005 Harvard president Lawrence Summers remarked that women aren't good at math and science.

@ShaulaEvans @gretared

Could it be that the women who are good at math and science simply instead go to the little trade school at the other end of the road (MIT)?

Harvard's president Summers seems to have forgotten about Margaret Hamilton, Grace Hopper, and scores of other women who got America to the moon, and more.

But I’m sure that leaders at Harvard would never engage in a full frontal attack on a black woman. 🤷‍♀️

@gretared I believe that was our former Treasury Secretary, made famous for also dismissing Mark Zuckerberg's invention at Harvard as just some weird college kid thing, not worth suing over. But I'm just a dumb housewife, what do I know.

cdalten,

@gretared Math 55 at Harvard used to keep stats on the number of women that could make it through that class. And the last time I checked, no woman could complete that course.

@cdalten @gretared https://www.math.harvard.edu/demystifying-math-55/ quotes a woman who took it as a freshman and TA'ed second year, but I'm sure your memory is infallible, king
