It seems like a lot of liberal fears about a second Trump presidency revolve around the expectation that he will do to the white majority what US presidents have been doing to brown people for centuries.
@HeavenlyPossum I get this, and I agree, the US settler state has always been fascist. Trump does want to do it a little differently than he did before though. I do think Trump literally wants to put me in a concentration camp for being pansexual and nonbinary, and put everyone I love in a camp for being immigrants or the children of immigrants, so he has actually amplified the genocidal rhetoric, but that doesn't mean it was OK the first time, or when Biden continued his same racist ass policy for longer. So it's like yeah all presidents are bastards, but for me I would definitely have immigrant fam mortally threatened by a Trump Admin 2.0.
@HeavenlyPossum This is trivializing slavery and Jim Crow. White folks, who weren't even educated on it, can barely imagine that any of it happened much less than it could happen to them.
Remember, when Ida Wells took the pictures of the lynchings to Europe to get some people to help her? The photos were so brutal that no one believed that they were real. That was at the time that it was actually happening.

I’m not sure how pointing out that US presidents have been performing fascism against non-whites for centuries somehow trivializes those experiences or constitutes racism, but you are of course welcome to do you.

You weren't pointing out the misdeeds of US presidents to bring any awareness to the harm done to non-whites. You were doing it to mock other whites because what is racism other than a vehicle for white folks to score points against each other with?
I was riffing on Aime Cesaire’s observation that Hitler’s unforgivable crime in the eyes of Europeans was in doing to other Europeans what Europeans had been doing to the rest of the world for centuries, a concept I first encountered in the work of Mahmood Mamdani, but again, you’re welcome to be mad at whatever fantasy of me you concocted based on a single sentence.
I waited to read what AskHistorians had to say about Cesaire until morning because I am not trying to go deeply into the French Negritude movement when I am tired.
@HeavenlyPossum A white person using the plight of people of color to dunk on other white people just does not have the same context as a black man trying to bring awareness to the atrocities done to other people of color.
