( if anyone wants to take a stab at a translation, that would be marvelous)

wyndix,

@RL_Dane I am absolutely dying while watching this. Now I want friends with unusual laughter

@wyndix

Everybody has an unusual laugh if you push them hard enough 😜

If you can believe it, I discovered the video through my church's podcast. They played a short clip of it while talking about joy, and I went looking for it and found it pretty easily

The laugh that sounded like a goose is what really intrigued me. I just had to find out what that was / who it was

wyndix,

@RL_Dane Actually, I do have a weird laugh in the sense that I literally scream while laughing if I find something truly funny

RL_Dane,
@RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

@wyndix

I have a pretty hearty guffaw that turns into a scream if I'm laughing too hard.

I have literally caused a family member to faint from laughing too hard.
Twice. XD

wyndix,

@RL_Dane I'd love to see a video of that XD

@wyndix

It was kind of terrifying, honestly. From laughing hard to suddenly being slack-faced, and then flop.
Too much constriction of muscles around the arteries that feed the brain.

wyndix,

@RL_Dane I imagine they would laugh even more after finding out they fainted from laughing

Imagine if this started an infinite loop-

Once I sneezed into my trombone. Then the others in my section were laughing into theirs, and it started a chain reaction until the whole band had to stop and the director asked if I was doing okay. :)

I'm laughing while reading this. That's a glorious mental image/scene.

Then there was the "Eighth Position Incident". Bear in mind that trombones only have 7 positions.

wyndix,

@benjaminhollon @RL_Dane Oh, knowing how clumsy I am I'd probably reach the nineteenth either way x)

@wyndix @RL_Dane

What happened:

  • An exercise has a note that's just below the range of a normal trombone
  • All but one of us have triggers, so we can reach it
  • Said one asks "If I could play it, what position would it be in?"
  • Since the issue is the lack of enough positions, I joked that you'd need to be in "Eighth Position". Bear in mind that these people have all been trombonists for years and know there are only seven positions.
  • I focus back on rehearsal

@wyndix @RL_Dane

Next thing I know every single other trombone has had its slide fall off from the players trying to reach eighth position. XD

    I think it's less about the instrument and more that people who are prone to goofing off seem attracted to having a slide. ;)

    Oooooof that sounds tough. I haven't used plastic mouthpieces, but I can't imagine it sounded as good.

    Even mixing the lube with alcohol which we did didn't help much in the end.

    Sounds like what you needed was an engine block heater 😆

    That reminds me of that one post Benjamin (I think?) boosted once about a computer that interpreted it was at 200ºC because it was too cold, and the motherboard stored the temperature as an 8 bit integer xD

    benjaminhollon,
    @benjaminhollon@fosstodon.org avatar

    @wyndix @RL_Dane @sotolf

    Hah, yes, I remember that one. A fun read. XD

    It was an unsigned 8-bit integer, so a negative temperature in Celcius would register as super-high, and the computer wouldn't boot. (Once booted, it would keep itself warm enough not to have the issue.) I think they used a blow torch or something like that (can't remember what power tool) to heat the board up during the boot process. ;)

    @wyndix

    I've had to start warning them to sit down before they cross that threshold ;)
