Look, FFS, can we stop this stupid posturing? Do you seriously expect ANYONE to believe that you agreed to pay a nearly $2bn fine for NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG?

I speculate that companies think this is some kind of face-saving measure, that it makes them look more respectable. Instead of looking like a toddler with chocolate still around his mouth earnestly insisting that he didn't eat the chocolate chip cookies. It's not as though anyone actually BELIEVES them. We just point at them and laugh in derision.
