The invention of the blue LED, one of the most difficult and important inventions ever – which allowed the white LED – is some of the craziest Chad shit I have ever heard about anything. This guy is pinnacle determination holy crap.

the next frontier is solving the green gap problem. right now we don't have efficient semiconductors that have a bandgap with a wavelength in the range between green-yellow and red-amber.
if we can find one, we can stop building white lights that have such a strong blue peak, and make very high efficiency white lights that run the full gamut of the Planckian locus.
@Benaresh@ariaflame@vandorb12@SwiftOnSecurity yes. when you see terms like "2700K warm white" or "6500K cold white", those are temperatures in Kelvin and they refer to points on the Planckian locus, which is a line through a colour space that locates the light emitted by black-body radiation sources at those corresponding temperatures.
@gsuberland@Benaresh@vandorb12@SwiftOnSecurity Yes, I'm familiar with black body radiation. One of the things that lead to quantum nature of particles being confirmed which is probably why planck is in there.
the Planckian locus line is derived by integrating the function composition of Planck's law and the colour space's CMFs, over λ, at each temperature T.
@SwiftOnSecurity isn't that fucking crazy? It seems like such a small achievement, but that is the difference between blinking network gear being the realm of possibility for LED lights to what we have now
