My famously region-free DVD player seems to have decided that Well, Actually it doesn't feel like playing some of my UK discs, even though I know damn well it's played at least one of them before, so that's delightful.
@jb It's not great! And it'll still play some, and I'm trying to get to the bottom of what it will and won't play, and it's probably for the best that I had to leave for work so I didn't spend all day plugging different things into different TVs and yelling at them.
It won't play my new-to-me Visionaries set, it won't play my Inhumanoids set that I know it's played before, it won't play the weird UK Transformers DVD that's got Victory on the cover but is in fact a few random dubbed Headmasters episodes, but it WILL play my UK RID2001 DVDs and my Australian Victory DVDs. And it's specifically giving a region error.
I was going to rip the Visionaries ones anyway so I can burn a region-free copy for my own use as a workaround when I want to watch it on one of the CRTs, but what the hell, DVD player?
I'm starting to understand why the person who ripped Visionaries for YouTube made such a big deal in the description about how much work they put into it, I don't know why this is laid out so much worse than the Inhumanoids set that came from the same publisher at the same time but ugh. Like, the opening is just on there once and I guess it calls it at the start of each episode when you play it? Each episode has the ending credits attached, just not the opening!
@trixter neither do I, especially on new shoes with the big fancy ass intros. They put it there for a reason, and it always helps me sink into the world.

I now have a set of MP4s of episodes from this DVD, and I'd like to add the intro, which is a separate MP4 file with identical encoding, to the beginning of each of them. I am using MacOS and I have ffmpeg installed, in case that's the best solution. I originally converted them from MKV to MP4 using Handbrake.
I'm the best there is at what I do and what I do is start big encoding jobs on my laptop while I'm at work that will definitely not be finished by the end of my shift.
Half of these episodes of Visionaries have a few frames of the TVToonland logo at the beginning, and one has a few frames of the end of the opening credits, so I have to trim those out before merging the actual opening. This DVD set is such a mess. 😭😭😭

@thyanel It's on YouTube! The whole series is a lot of fun -- it's a lot of the same GI Joe/Transformers writers, but they used TMS for animation so it looks better than it has any right to -- but the first few minutes of episode 5 gives you a good feel for the vibes.
@sirber I'm not sure what you're asking for? I'm just using Handbrake to turn some MKVs I ripped from DVDs into MP4s. It's just hobby stuff, archiving some old cartoons that only got limited DVD releases.
@trixter it's faster if you use a hardware codec, like quick sync with an Intel CPU, than x264 or x265, which are software based. The quality may suffer a bit though.
@sirber I'm on an M1 MacBook, and the quality of my source material is so bad that I don't want to do anything that would make it any worse. I'm working with PAL DVD releases of NTSC shows, and those DVD releases were not exactly lovingly remastered.
