@trixter I don't watch Tubi often, mostly because I tend to prefer linear programming where I don't have to pick and choose what to watch. But damn if it's not well done and unobtrusive when I have.

Ugh, apparently my little tortie foster kitty Madelyne's adoption isn't working out. Looks like I might be spending my Saturday coaxing her out from under a couch.

I'd remind people that most cats take time to acclimate to new homes but I feel like I'm preaching to the choir here. But holy heck people, please be patient with your new adoptions.

@trixter I moved with a cat to a new apartment and we didn't find him for a day and a half because he found a hidden hole in the wall inside a cabinet almost immediately and didn't come out. And that was a new place with humans he knew and liked nearby!

@trixter I don't wanna defend this person, but I assume you have a car you can actually service yourself. My last one was specifically designed to require lifts and power tools if you ever wanted to do anything even as simple as change the battery (this required the removal of a whole wheel). The hood could be popped, but all you could really do was change some fluids.

@trixter @9eurosyltbesucher Peacock on my Roku gives you 5 seconds from the start of credits rolling to cancel the autoplay. Even if there's stuff after the credits. Even if you're on the last episode (it starts playing a new show). Even if you're watching a movie (it plays a new movie). IT CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. All you can do is hope you remember where you dropped the remote and scramble for the arrow keys to move to cancel.

My famously region-free DVD player seems to have decided that Well, Actually it doesn't feel like playing some of my UK discs, even though I know damn well it's played at least one of them before, so that's delightful.

(There’s writing on the box that is a term that’s been used as an ableist slur so I’m blurring it; there’s an asset tag on it from an elementary school so I’m guessing it actually belonged to the special education department and the writing was not intended as a slur.)

@trixter Both my parents worked for schools most of their adult lives, largely in that very department, so I can verify that this abbreviation is used extensively in that setting. Always was a little weird to me.

I’ve updated my foster kitty food donation list for February! I might start posting a Chewy list too, especially since Amazon can be hit or miss with stocking dry food. As of this week we have people interested in adopting Butter Pecan (no thoughts only orange) and Madelyne (tortitude), so hopefully we’ll have more kitties in homes soon. Watching current Doctor Who as someone who only knew the series through cultural osmosis until the Thirteenth Doctor is wild, there's always some 80-year-old white woman showing up and everyone's like, "HOLY SHIT, it's the Eight Doctor's beloved companion Mary Pickles-Babbage!" and losing their shit and I'm just smiling and nodding along.

I wish subtitles would actually change languages when the dialogue does. Don’t just give me [speaking Russian], put some Russian words on the screen so hearing-impaired people who know that language can understand it as well as multilingual hearing people!

(Counterpoint to myself, though: I assume this is actually a technical limitation of the character sets being used to display subtitles, which probably only contain one language’s alphabet at a time.)

@trixter Oh, lucky you. The subs largely refused to work for me at all watching Loki S2.

I'm sure a lot more things wish they had scripts to base captions on. I do see the occasional missed line or word, and that's not so bad. Most of the ones that I mean are where someone's going by ear and not taking time to make sure they got it right. Meanwhile I can clearly hear the difference.

@trixter As an aside, Golden Girls has some of the most head-scratchingly weird caption tracks I have ever seen. Not one single line matches the spoken dialogue. The intent is always roughly the same, but lines are compressed, combined, or completely restated throughout.
