@rose_alibi I recently got promoted and I added my title to my email signature because I'm trying to just let people know I have a different job now, but it feels dumb and pretentious. I can't wait for a few months to pass so people know what my job is and I can take it out of my signature
@rose_alibi I hate titles. When I used to interview adam schiff for stories at the newspaper, I just called him adam even though everyone else called him congressman schiff. To his credit he was fine with that.
I don't want to use any title for anyone unless it's relevant to the facts of the discussion.
@rose_alibi There was some discourse on twitter a couple years ago among female academics saying it's patriarchal to refuse to use titles in academia because men are assumed to have authority but women need the title to prove it, and if you don't use the title, you take that away.
I was like, ok, i get what you're all saying, but titles suck and you need to find a better hill to die on
@MLE_online yeah idk i am technically a woman in academia and i think titles are an icky reinforcement of a heirarchy i don't think should exist for anyone. i am far more likely to use a woman's title than a man's though
@MLE_online rare that anyone who had dealt with me for more than a few minutes doesn't respect my authority though so there is that. a benefit of being androgynous. and kind of a bitch.

Even as a cis white guy, when I was 15 years younger than all my peers and had a long ponytail, a title was often the only thing that would get other professionals to get over their shit and talk with me.

This overblown title is actually not really that very much longer than your example, now that I see them both on the screen together!
@MLE_online@smellsofbikes I'm running the glitch-soc fork of Mastodon, which honors markdown, so I wrote:

Then it gets rendered as a quote when I post. Quotes do not show the same on every client, so when it's important that it be clear that it's a quote, I also use quote characters.
@MLE_online Oh and I see you are also on glitch-soc so that should work for you. But you have to go into preferences and turn it in. It's off by default.
