@memes I'm actually not surprised because in the 70s and 80s it was very common for office women to work in IT, administration, data entry and such. Lots of women from this time period who are very familiar with UNIX-like operating systems and are not afraid of using the command line.
@memes Back then the shell was the only way to interact with a computer in the first place, so every regular computer user knew how to use it.
Nowadays it's all obscured by fancy interfaces and touch screens and whatnot, and the shell is only supposed to be used by powerusers making the average computer user dumber in general.
I have heard stories of gen alpha having trouble even understanding the basic concept of directories and files...
back during my study, there were people who didn't understand that the files they made using an IDE were text files. there also was someone asking what a taskbar is. i also remember someone not knowing you can view history in git (said person claimed to have made something, which was easily proven wrong).
my disappointment in these people is immeasurable. not because they didn't understand, but because they didn't try to understand
