Some of them did turn to fascism, but i would blame class and ethnic alignments before them participating in internet discussion blood sports. While certainly deserving of criticism, framing the latter as a precursor to fascism in any meaningful way has become a canard that insinuates a worldview which conflates meanness with political alignment.
