I was 13 yrs old & being taught how to target shoot pop cans with a pellet rifle. Jake Masselink - one of our family's sponsors who funded our family to come to Canada & helped us apply for asylum & then Canadian citizenship - was teaching me. It was on #PenderIsland at their family homestead, in Hope Bay. My 2 brothers are waiting their turn.
Jake worked for #BCgovernment, in #BCParks department for decades. He's an #environmentalist & one of the first white persons I learned to trust. He taught me how to kayak too. I have many wonderful family memories of our times on Pender, with the Masselink family.
This outtake from Environmental Planning students at #RoyalRoadsUniversity, recounts some of their more challenging experiences with BC's oldest park on #VancouverIsland.
I'm no fan of organized #religion & have PTSD from church related childhood abuses. I can't personally support organized religions. I have respect for folks who do practice organized religions. Religious folks whom I hold respect for, refrain from judging others, respect my cultural spiritual beliefs & don't try to indoctrinate me into their chosen religion.
