Regular phones lack spam protection so much that I'm considering completely disconnecting my number and going exclusively for web-based services that have better privacy controls.

I get an order of magnitude more recruiter spam and phishing via phone and SMS than legit communications.

@afilina the iPhone allows me to only get text messages from known contacts, and I think there’s a setting so private numbers don’t ring through, but I can’t keep that on because my doctor calls from a private number.

But even blocked numbers will end up in voicemail

(Edited because it will receive and hold unknown texts in a separate folder but I don’t get alerts about them.)

@uberbrady That's a good point. Perhaps there's a way to temporarily lower the shield if I expect a communication in the next minute?

Unless someone can tell me that there's a way to proxy all phone calls and texts through a spam filter before bothering me on my device.
