My office spent almost $2,000 on a pan-tilt-zoom iot camera for streaming earthquake press conferences, and it's never been used because it got infected with the Mirai botnet malware after they connected it to the internet.

I don't even see anything in the manual for how to do a factory reset so the camera can be fixed and used again.

@MLE_online at least that's not quite as dumb as how someone here at my workplace trashed an expensive Teradek wireless HD video receiver by leaving it outdoors for several weeks worth of rainy weather, powered on

@MLE_online Mirai is not persistent, so if you change the login/password and cycle power, you should be good to go

@MLE_online all of your j0rb posts bring me right back to my days at my previous higher ed employer. we had so many situations where the tl;dr was a ton of money sunk into a piece of tech that was non functional for whatever reason
