@jacqueline whilst diversity is still sadly broadly in line with industry norms, I quite enjoyed https://linux.conf.au the one time I went. Topics ranging from kernel stuff through hardware hacking through knitting. Really interesting range. Conference is in a different city each year.
@cthulhu the thing about diversity in tech is that you could 100% fill out a con program with people from all walks. it would not be that hard. it’s not even that many people you need to find!!
@buzzyrobin my trouble with infosec is that, even when they seem like a cool queer, it’s a coin flip whether or not their politics are “we should invent robocop (1987)”
i would say my main problem with the ones i've considered, is that the bulk of speakers tend to be people who describe themselves as "senior engineering advocate at wisetech global"
very straight affairs as well, mostly. i dont want a talk about the barriers women face in industry, i want a talk about how u worked out how to blow up ai-enabled security cameras by dressing as the null pointer gender
