Fun things about manufacturing physical things: considering all the permutations in variances in tolerance

eg. if the screw-holes are 0.1mm larger than model, and the screws are 0.13mm longer than model, and then repeat this for the front and back… are the screws going to run into each other in the middle?

it feels a bit silly to come up with a whole Label System when i currently have a total of two (2) small cartons of production stuff. but seems better to start doing it earlier than i need than later than i need

buzzyrobin,

@jacqueline better now than when you need to figure out why seven tangaras are suddenly having a bad time and you have no idea which bits went into what

for those continuing to play along at home, this is 32 displays. a hair under 250 grams.

easy to store, not very heavy, and a moderate amount of space. a real winner for bulk ordering!

kicking the tyres on sourcehut releases https://codeberg.org/cool-tech-zone/tangara-fw/releases/tag/v0.9.0

they seem fine so far! tho it is a bit awkward that i attached the build artifact by downloading it from a sourcehut build page then reuploading it to codeberg manually. it would be nice to automate this in a way that's also auditable

What's up, peeps? I've been so bad at keeping up with mastodon- what cool stuff have y'all been up to?

buzzyrobin,
@buzzyrobin@chaos.social avatar

@stargirl Hi / welcome back!

Continuing work on Ye Olde Tangara (now with Less Bulky Case), kitbashing together a mini HDMI monitor, fixing my old set of Logitech speakers to not be so damn bassy, swapping my new-old thinkpad over to USB-C power, having a big nap, uhhhh …

A palm-sized HDMI display with a 3D-printed case styled after an old beige CRT monitor. The STL was a big modification of a ‘286 Raspberry Pi’ project on thingiverse.
The guts of a Logitech X-530 bass speaker, an arrow pointing to an SMD resistor on the board I needed to swap out to make the bass knob actually, y’know, turn down the bass.
A Thinkpad T460, internals visible, showing a USB-C trigger-board placed where the power socket used to be. A 3D-printed block keeps the board in place, along with an amount of hot glue. (@jacqueline did this one for me; I was too scared)
