Welp, kid managed to get a drone stuck about 50ft up in a tree. Thus, further reconfirming my earlier claim (prior to him wasting his money on it) that drones are, in fact, the worst toy in the whole toy universe.
Although trying to figure out how to retrieve a drone stuck 50ft up in a tree is actually an interesting project. Someone should sell a toy just dedicated on that.
This really is a conundrum. Tree is behind a locked 8-ft security fence (construction project). Even if accessible, not easily climbable as no branches below about 20 ft. And you wouldn't want to climb as high as its actual height. Too big to shake. Beyond the range of any obvious kid-grade projectile (nerf gun, thrown ball, water cannon, etc.). Plus, anything thrown would just land beyond the locked security fence. Not coordinated enough to do a circus style human-tower.
Maybe I could get a boom box and stand out front of the house playing "In Your Eyes" on repeat until all of the neighbors band together and figure out how to get the drone out of the tree.
Thought: I wonder which has caused more injuries and death? Accidents involving retrieval of stuck drones or or accidents involving stuck Jarts (ie., in skulls).
@dabeaz unironically, getting my little drone out of a tree in the park (in front of a crowd of onlookers) is maybe the most fun I had with it. Everyone clapped!
@graham_knapp Well, his proposal was to knock the drone out of the tree using some kind of gun (like a Nerf gun). But that raises a whole new round of problems. And there's the fact that I'm unconvinced he could even aim the gun well enough to hit the drone at that distance.
