There's no way to completely avoid being controversial. No matter what stance or public position you take, there's going to be a sizeable opposition.

Try to figure out what you think is right and true and then attempt to be consistent with that.

Adjust, if needed, as you find out more.

I see it a different way.

One's position should be able to withstand criticism and investigation. I don't want to believe the wrong thing.

Additionally, being able to shrug off controversy when facts have been challenged are an indication of one's character.
