Why is it so complicated to run a local web server for development that uses subdomains and SSL? I’m drowning in docker, nginx, puma, and rails. It seems like this should be so simple with just a few config files, and yet… 😭

Make an entry in your /etc/hosts file of the domain you want to test with and then procure a locally trusted certificate with mkcert. It can procure a wildcard certificate that's valid for all subdomains as well. 😄

@jefflewis Jeff, have you looked into ngrok? I haven’t used it in five years but it does what you’re looking for.

The free version doesn’t support custom domains and has some other limits but it works really well.
