After the police raided the Gaza solidarity encampment on Columbia University campus last week, arresting over 100 people but failing to suppress it, they conceded that the demonstrators could stay if they didn't put up tents.

Today, the demonstrators put up tents again.

What is really happening here is a generational clash between those who benefit from a world order founded on colonial violence and those for whom it is unconscionable.

The Jewish participants in our project are the ones calling the shots in our coverage of the events in Palestine and the solidarity demonstrations elsewhere around the world. The various Jewish Israelis whose work we gratefully publish have repeatedly explained in great detail why they use the word "colonial" to describe the particular kind of violence that the Israeli military inflicts on Palestinians. Please consider their perspectives:

Celebrating Al-Quasam and Hamas – that's what is unconscionable.
Al-Qassam, you make us proud, take another soldier out”
“We say justice, you say how? Burn Tel Aviv to the ground”
“Hxmas, we love you. We support your rockets too”

This video shows people outside of Columbia University; it does not show the participants in the encampment discussed in the post that you are responding to.

As anarchists, we are opposed to Hamas and every other ruling or aspiring government. Opposing the senseless murder of Palestinians does not mean supporting Hamas. If you oppose Hamas for killing about 1140 people on October 7, you should also oppose the Israeli military for killing over 34,000 Palestinians since then and driving over a million out of their homes—and aspiring to kill many more, with the planned invasion of Rafah.

Changing the subject to Hamas when we are speaking about how to save the lives of Palestinian children who will die in the invasion of Rafah is deeply irresponsible. Attempting to associate those who oppose genocidal violence with Hamas is deeply irresponsible, as well.

Presumably, if you had better arguments against the courageous students demonstrating inside Columbia, you would have presented those, instead of simply trying to misrepresent them.
