Am lamenting anew the refusal by Biden to support Supreme Court reform when Democrats controlled the House and Senate and could have expanded the Court, neutralizing the power of demonstrably corrupt Justice Thomas and the justices appointed after Mitch McConnell illegitimately refused to advance Obama’s nominee to the seat that went eventually to Gorsuch. Elected Democrats must take foundational measures if we are to preserve any sort of meaningful democracy in America. #LawFedi 1/
Joe's inclination was to assume he personally could bring fair dealing and regular order and bipartisanship back. I am sure he realizes his mistake now. We have to row hard, take unified control of government again, and expand the court. Biden should speak about it now. @potus
Agree, but not so sure Joe was under any illusions. His hands are tied by the numbers. Think he has played it pretty well given the hand he has been dealt.
@heidilifeldman I anticipate such changes in the next Biden/ Congress Majority- along with many others. In the meantime--what?-I refuse to gnash my teeth! I haven't many left! But! We have Hope the pendulum has swung toward GOOD..
@heidilifeldman I kinda remember Biden voting to confirm C. Thomas despite it being quite obvious from the confirmation hearings that Thomas knows not a whit about Constitutional law, said he would make things up (via "natural law"), and that he sexually assaulted Anita Hill.

Schumer and Biden might or might not have been able to bring Manchin and Sinema along, but that was never even a possibility unless Biden made clear he was seriously committed to Supreme Court reform. Biden’s institutionalism made him too conservative on this, and other serious democracy-enhancing measures, such as electoral votes for the District of Columbia. 4/
On every major topic, Manchin danced to his own beat. This is not Biden's fault. And even when Biden had deals with Manchin, Manchin still renegged because he did not like how it was rolled out. Not Joe's defect.

I totally agree. I just don’t see Biden supporting SCOTUS reform. He hid behind his SCOTUS commission to scuttle the issue. He believes in the US govt as is, and will continue to model the old fashioned bipartisan style of governing that he would like the parties to return to.

With Manchin and Sinema being the 49th and 50th votes, there was no chance that was happening. Let's get a functional majority and it will happen.
