@volpeon If I recall correctly, the "patch" mechanism on Windows is "just too powerful" with extremely complex logic because most patches were designed to be installable in almost arbitrary orders, exactly which patches are available depending on the current system state down to the exact version of every single component, and that dependency resolving task is non-trivial, probably comparable with Gentoo. At least that was the explanation I heard back then during the XP/Windows 7 era. Not sure if anything changed after Windows 10 started using rolling-style upgrades.
