In these great modern times of expensive AI nonsense we can have enshittification that doesn't even generate a profit but actually costs companies money for every user.

Who cares what these guys do or do not do. It doesn't actually matter at all.
I'd say that these types of messages are more damaging at this point since it shows we don't trust the systems and regulations that we set up for ourselves.
@doctormo I would argue, further, that calling out such things is in fact demonstrating the faith in the fediverse and open source.
After all, why call it out if you don't believe it would matter? Why call it out, if you have no faith in these regulations and these systems you mentioned?
Two AI-connected venture-capital-linked guys are now on Mastodon's US non-profit board. That is jarring. Calling it out is absolutely the right thing to do.
And if our systems really do depend on hyper-vigilance then we may have more structural problems. And anxiety problems.
I hate VCs, I dislike AI hype. I have zero trust in any of these guys. But I rather hoped we'd gotten to the point of not needing to trust them at all.
@doctormo if Gargron is okay with seating these guys on any kind of Mastodon-connected board, it is a red flag also in the context of Mastodon-the-software and Mastodon gGmbH.
I don't think we're in peachy shape either, though. And if this leads to other instance software to mature and become better, gaining more mind share and donations, I would definitely not hate that outcome.
