The past couple weeks I’ve been embracing silence. Max 1 hour TV/ day, no background music while I work, no music at all with vocals, etc.

This morning I sat still in the back yard with a cup of tea and I heard EVERYTHING. The breeze through the treetops; a half dozen different bird calls; a squirrel scuttling on the top of the fence; distant sounds of traffic. It was exhilarating!

@imtheq Funny you mention that. I just read an article this week about John Cage's 4'33" (a musical composition consisting of 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence) and how it's supposed to make you contemplate all the little sounds in your environment that you'd otherwise ignore. Specifically, a professor at Columbia cut it from his music class this year because what students would have been hearing was the protest outside.
