The Sound of a Scythe is the thirty-first book entered into the Harlan Ellison Directory. Also known as The Man With Nine Lives, this was Ellison's second science-fiction novella.
The story follows Cal Emory as he plots revenge against his onetime friend Lederman, head of an intergalactic shipping empire. While planning his revenge, Emory is imprisoned, and is force to live the lives of different alien races and creatures.
