solidsanek,

What's the last game you've completed? And what did you think of it?

edit: "completed" means "beaten", so simply finishing a playthrough, no matter the % of completion

@solidsanek TowerClimb, really hard but really fun and I like how much it enforces the fact that you're just a tiny little man dealing with obstacles bigger than you since it makes your accomplishments and skill much more impactful and fun. Even with the best ingame items, you are still going to die and lose a lot of runs

@steffo @solidsanek I've done the Centurial Trials too which killed me. Thing takes like 8 hours of continuous gameplay and you can only carry a single revive :blobcatdead: anyways I beat it now so I'm not doing it again but I've been bashing my head against Colossus for a while

@steffo @solidsanek I really do love TC though, if I did more gamedev I'd make a game inspired by some of its ideas. Specifically I like how everything is focused on function rather than numbers. You get touched once and you die and it feels more natural in my opinion and also all items are skill dependent like you need to actually be able to wield something for it to be useful. Every time ive gotten a really good item for the first time I basically died soon after because I couldn't bring out its full potential. There's also no concept of items just being better without added cost. Like brobash's scimitar is super fast and you could probably insta kill everything with it but that means you need to deal with how clunky it is to use and deal with its short range which I cant but in the hands of a pro, it basically is night and day. Almost all items come with this catch 22 where they make you much more powerful if you can use them. The king's hook is great and basically solves all navigation issues but Ive died a lot trying to use it because it's not easy. I wish more games just didn't have the thoughtless approach of "bigger number" and instead had unique items with unique funtions

@niko @solidsanek the fact that even crates can be really useful in certain cases is testament to the really good design of items in towerclimb!

have you played spelunky? i often describe towerclimb to friends as "spelunky but going up instead of down", i think you might like it a lot

@steffo @solidsanek I didnt actually check out Spelunky but probably will

@steffo @solidsanek also crates weirdly also fit into the catch 22 function I talk about because you can zip with them

kura,
