I’m going down the wooden cutting board rabbit hole :bunowohop:

tyil,

@cnx That rabbit hole shouldn't be too deep, just make sure you get actual wood, not bamboo or anything. Then look for the right size for you, which depends on how big your kitchen space is and personal preferences. Buy some oil along with it to season the cutting board before use!

@tyil, I happen to have got an end-grain one and after oiling I noticed it’s a bit porous for mineral oil alone to seal. Just ordered some that is mixed with wax but it’ll take a few days to arrive.

BTW that shit drinks up so much oil I start to wonder if usians are made of cutting boards instead of rocks or clay like in commonly told tales.

tyil,

@cnx All cutting boards drink up a lot of oil in their initial seasoning, it is a hidden cost when you buy one. I used almost the entire bottle of oil I bought with it!

But I think it was worth it, I have a nice, large cutting board now and its a joy to cut on. I have since also invested in higher quality knives, which makes the prep part of cooking much nicer in general.
