@Teri_Kanefield as someone who’s spent zero time in courtrooms other than almost being a juror I’m curious, is it normal to violate a judges order ten times and not end up in jail by noon? And I realize there’s gray area here. Just curious because it seems extreme 😳

    @Teri_Kanefield I’m asking you specifically based on what’s actually occurred, I don’t watch commentators talk about this stuff 🙂 I’m not an angry observer, just a curious one.

    I know most of the people that come at you are angry already but that’s not me - just an observer.

    @Teri_Kanefield I'm referring to this:

    “I find you in criminal contempt for the 10th time,” said Justice Juan Merchan, who said he is concerned that Donald Trump has apparently not taken heed of his prior findings.

    “Going forward, this court will have to consider a jail sentence. The last thing I want to do is put you in jail.”

    @Teri_Kanefield that's not what I want at all, my apologies for engaging. I’ll just stick to reading your blog posts.

    @cdlhamma I am trying to find the original question you asked me. I'm writing a blog post right now about legal commentary and the problems with it.

    You asked, "is this normal" and pointed to the criminal contempt for the 10th time, right?"

    I have a question back to you. Did you think I'd be able to say "yes" or "no" easily?

    @Teri_Kanefield original post below. I personally wasn’t expecting a yes or no at all, just an answer based on your experience. I always look to you for far more than a binary answer 🙂

    Just a curious legal observer. I assume the talking heads are out there screaming it’s unprecedented to rile people up. But is it?

    Sorry that was a long winded response!

    @cdlhamma

    In that case, the answer would be,

    'In my private appellate practice I do not recall anyone being jailed for violating a court order, but that could be because of the nature of cases I handled.

    I did, however, observe situations when people violated orders, but that was generally in family matters with restraining orders.

    @cdlhamma

    And that would be of no help, right?

    I assumed that what you wanted was for me to make a comment on whether Trump should have been jailed.

    Put another way, you wanted to understand whether the court's ruling was good, bad, normal, or abnormal?

    @Teri_Kanefield that was all I was really looking for personally, so for me yes that helps! When I ask questions it’s more around what happens in the real world so I can understand better. I'm probably in the minority asking questions like this and not fishing for a specific response. Maybe I should have worded my original question better 🙂

    I know there's no way you can make a comment on his case specifically. I’m looking more generally when I ask a question.

    @cdlhamma I did a better job in the blog post I'm about to finish responding to you.

    @Teri_Kanefield I look forward to reading it 😀
