I keep seeing people I like on here posting and needing to add big disclaimers that you shouldn't shame them for using Google services. Jesus, my Gmail account is 20 years old, of course I don't want to change it. And the alternatives people suggest for other services are almost always clunkier and/or more technical. That decision absolutely isn't easy at all. If you're shaming people over this stuff, shut the fuck up.
Here's an evergreen reminder that people asking for help using a service aren't inviting you to tell them they should be using something else. For whatever reason.
@aetataureate I investigated/tried switching a few years back after Google fired their ethical AI team, but it is a lot of work. In the end, I switched all my government, finance etc accounts to Proton, but my Gmail is how people from 20 years ago can reach me (they don't often try but it's possible 🙈), and what I use for ordering things online
@aetataureate also, remember when people used to communicate using email? now i just use it to authenticate to stuff and get receipts for online purchases
