In March of 1997 WIRED Magazine published their cover story on how browsers might soon disappear as everyone would prefer stuff pushed to them instead of discovered via following links.

It was widely panned and browsers are still very much alive today but I have to say when I look at Instagram and TikTok, those are all-Push content apps and maybe WIRED got it a little bit correct?

This is pretty fancy. Native port (not emulation) of Majora's Mask game with nice framerates and upscaling. For a 1.0 release, the interface and performance are very nice on a Linux laptop without a discrete graphics card.

@ericbuijs I've got a barrel connector DC jack coming which I will resolder. I don't think it's the power supply as I tried an alternative one (although not identical)

I keep seeing people I like on here posting and needing to add big disclaimers that you shouldn't shame them for using Google services. Jesus, my Gmail account is 20 years old, of course I don't want to change it. And the alternatives people suggest for other services are almost always clunkier and/or more technical. That decision absolutely isn't easy at all. If you're shaming people over this stuff, shut the fuck up.

I have a meeting on MS Teams. If I try to join with various browsers on linux, the connection is blocked. iPhone works. Tried Windows virtual machine and, surprise, it also works.

Has someone else with a linux Desktop experienced blocking by Microsoft? It looks very fishy.

@rigo what's the error? i use linux desktop exclusively and am required to use teams for work. i keep chrome around just for teams, and recently employed a user agent switcher to masquerade as Chrome118/Windows10 so i could get the "new teams" via the browser.

  • no TRIM or journaling FS
  • no Widevine CDM (bad Google)
  • hard to print
  • small project, not enough ports committers to do stable security for ports really well
  • sound quality is odd? not sure?
  • no ext4 or LUKS support (Linux stuff, ok)

OK, UK types, it’s council elections day. When you go out to vote, remember that you need to take photo ID with you. Yes, it is bad that you have to do so because it harms people without IDs more than it helps stop basically-nonexistent “voting fraud”, and yes this is a flagrantly partisan measure to benefit the Tories, and yes it was put through Parliament with barely any discussion or opposition, but you still have to do it. Don’t take it out on polling station volunteers, either.
