While in the excitable states of America, it's been a helpful, disarming (not like that!) strategy I have used.
I fondly recall an aggressively arguing couple in the car next to us waiting at the lights in Pasadena some years back.
I was transfixed.
Look everyone, a barny!
They stared back, somewhat cross, wound down their window to remonstrate. I opened ours, said "GOOD DAY", the lights changed and we were off! VROOOM!
