I nice piece by Keith Stuart over at the Guardian on old games mags. Worryingly, I actually agree with most of his list, and even the order it’s in. That has to be a first.

@craiggrannell Never realised it was C”&”VG. Ah well the amount of pocket money that went to those lot could’ve brought loads of games. :)

@craiggrannell I’d place Maximim higher up, Games TM lower down, add The One, split out Crash and Zzap!64, drop Edge down to 2nd or 3rd and place Zzap!64 at top. Not for nostalgic reasons. Crash came first but Zzap!64 got it spot on after issue 3 and ended up influencing Crash in return.

@marksemczyszyn Yep. I get the love for people’s platform of choice, but Zzap! was objectively the best Newsfield mag, for all kinds of reasons. (Similarly, weird to see YS and CU paired. The former was so far ahead of the latter that it’s painful. CU shouldn’t be anywhere near a top 15.)

@marksemczyszyn I’d also put Retro Gamer in the top ten. 14 seems a bit miserly for everything that mag’s achieved, especially under Darran’s watch.
