@Ric @ivory @andycarolan this is basically a Mastodon/decentralized this. There is no central spot to look up users. It is feature or a curse, depending on what you want from Mastodon.

@dustinrue @ivory @andycarolan but if you go to the profile of the user on the website instance their signed up to you can get this data.

@Ric @ivory @andycarolan correct, because that instance knows all, it has to. But my instances, where the profile is being stored, does not know everything about the user in question. So you must go to the source of truth. Now, whether or not Ivory could use some API call to get that info is a question I don't have a answer to because I don't know anything about the ActivityPub protocol
