Anyone know about decks? Mine is pressure treated, covered in algae? and the finish is worn off. What do I need to do refinish it? Pressure washing? Sanding? What kind of stain should I use?

@nervous_jessica Pressure washing damages the wood and leads to more algae in the future. I recommend a regular wood cleaning agent and a scrubber.

@nervous_jessica For cleaning, straight up pressure washing will get rid of the algae. But a gentler approach with a specific deck cleaning solution meant for algae and a good scrub will likely cause less wear down the road. (Personally I don’t mind and just go the pressure washer route.) Let it dry fully (like a month dry! You don’t want to deal in moisture that can cause rot.) before sealing or painting with a deck stain. I like a solid or semi solid color deck stain best.

@faziarizvi thank you!

@nervous_jessica using a straight up pressure washer will look great short term, but will mess up the wood fibers quickly, don't do it!
I use a specific patio cleaner attachment for mine, that works very well.
