@kjhealy @hotdogsladies @ironicsans But the NYT, like me, doesn't allow subjects to define how their names are cased. The Times goes with Mac Mini, not mini. And surely they would not go with BEN PROTESS just because he styles it that way himself.

@gruber @hotdogsladies @ironicsans It clearly varies in different bylines by him—eg in ones that are all small caps, his name is in all small caps too—so I wonder if it just shows up in settings where they just pull the name directly from how he wrote it in their CMS or something

Before you told me about the reason, I figured it was just how it was entered in the CMS—with custom CSS doing the actual styling, so nobody noticed.

But, it's really satisfying to know the actual reason and that it's intentional and inclusive. Thanks.
