I keep seeing in my feeds comparisons between and Google maps. The point is 'OSM (and derivatives) are better because by default shows way more info'. In that aspect, they're right. To map people this annoying.

What I think is that they miss the point: the lack of info in gmaps (and I guess amaps, and facebook?) is intentional. The whole point is, because you don't see anything, you ask the app for everything. That provides them more points for building their profile of you.

Most the people around me don't use the map like us OSMers. They don't try to find new places, they don't use the info for navigating. They just ask the app everything and they're fine with the results. Most of the time they have bad spatial awareness, and that's fine for them. It's probably the same people that never could read maps in the first; now they just have an app that reads it for them.

You could try to teach them, but it's up to them if they're interested or not.
