When I discuss what should be in the web & what I consider to be bloat, it becomes clear that different people want different things from the web!

What I want are inter-connected documents, which can be rendered (given appropriate software) beautifully to any device!

I want it to be feasible for a small team to build their own!

And I don't mind extra features being added to the web as long as it has graceful degradation. So smaller browsers don't have to implement it!

@alcinnz
I can relate to that. But I actually think this is possible by stripping the web pages to HTML (and maybe CSS) and pre-processing the result into a nicer form (with something like Readability.js or Tranquility reader?)

I've been using Surf with JS turned off by default, and I've been surprised by how many (major?) sites support this mode of browsing and degrade to HTML+CSS gracefully.

I must say that my sample is quite restricted, as I'm not doing that much web browsing.

@aartaka Yeah, that's the subset which interests me!

@alcinnz I have found it to be both disappointing that I can't know or keep track of all use cases for foundational technology.

On the plus side, it is fun to discover the occasional good use case I haven't thought of.
