case design for the new CO2 monitors is pretty much finished

@gsuberland What kind of sensor will you be using? NDIR or something fancier?

gsuberland,
@gsuberland@chaos.social avatar

@ignaloidas we have:

  • Sensirion SCD40 (dual-sensor photoaccoustic NDIR)
  • Sensirion SGP30 (multi-pixel TVOC / eCO2)
  • Sensirion SHT35 (temp / humidity)

some may also get a Plantower PMSA003 PM2.5 sensor, time permitting.

the old boards (which we'll still run) have Winsen MH-Z19D NDIR CO2 sensors, which are cheap and cheerful.

@ignaloidas I had actually hoped to have a continuous gas analyser refurbished and ready to go for this EMF but unfortunately I haven't had the time, and I don't think I can fit it in the car. it's the size of a very large suitcase.

@gsuberland god, why do they call it psychoacoustic NDIR

NDIR as far as I can tell always referred to the transmissive way, and PAS was the always the name for the acoustic way of sensing.

anyways, seems like nice array of sensors

@ignaloidas yeah it's a bit wonky terminology but it's a dual-sensor design so it's a maaaajor upgrade from the cheapo MH-Z19Ds we had before which were often not much better than random number generators for absolute values.

the other cool thing is that the SHT35's very high accuracy can feed into the SCD40's temperature and humidity compensation system to give us even better results.

@gsuberland looking good. Good idea to deconstruct each side and assemble it afterwards. I always had trouble with printing/maintaining even simple boxes.

@ppxl this is laser cut. I hate 3D printing lol

@gsuberland understandable but I don't have a laser cutter 😭

@ppxl local hackspace is a lifesaver
