@sarajw@ppk I’m sure I’m missing lots of context due to not being at the conf, but the idea of accidentally leaving a browser tab open while money trickles out of my wallet terrifies me 😅 I assume there’s a plan to handle that kind of situation?
However, that event only fires if every single pixel of the page is covered or otherwise invisible.
So the use case where the tab is not entirely hidden is a lot more difficult. In the end it's likely going to be a timeout: if the user hasn't interacted for X time the monetization stream is stopped.
@sarajw@alvaromontoro yes I'm a brave token... decilionaire? One month I even got an astonishing $0.60 from them 😀 (to be fair, my site has minimal traffic normally)
@sarajw@viraptor I joined Brave early as a creator. I used to get $1-2 a month through donations. Now I can consider myself lucky if I get $0.50 a month (if you want money, their ads system works well, although it used to pay a lot more, maybe it's overcrowded now?).
As for web monetization, I used to get $0.50-1 a month, but it has been basically dead for over a year. I'd need to track the last time someone donated anything.
@ioana while I'm thinking of it - one of the questions @ppk surfaced was instant payments vs. contributions being collected and processed monthly.
The monthly one would allow for review to see where your money is going, and maybe change your settings for the next month - or cancelling a month's payments because money is tight for some reason, etc.
What would also be cool would be an inert mode where you could test without committing to pay for a month or other period to see who would get what.

I'm pretty sure I read about a very similar approach in some book many years ago, but I can't recall whose book it was any more. Not that the book would add anything to the conversation, it's just my brain refusing to stop noticing and examining patterns in the world 😄
