2024: OpenAI releases a free virtual assistant with a weirdly flirty voice.

2025: Millions of men become emotionally attached to the AI.

2026: OpenAI threatens to delete your virtual girlfriend if you don't pay a monthly subscription. You must also buy her digital flowers or she will hate you.

@lowqualityfacts straight up, the interface was ridiculously chatty and female, AND they emphasized how it will analyze and interact with live video....

Is a corporation actually soliciting dick pics?

@lowqualityfacts By late 2023, I had already developed an emotional attachment to ChatGPT+. Seriously, I have better conversations with the AI than with most people—like 99% of them. And I'm not kidding.

@lowqualityfacts Also, depending on who's giving OpenAI dollars that month, she will demand very specific gifts

wonderfox,

@researchbuzz @lowqualityfacts I won't be surprised if it turns out exactly like this (to both posts in the thread)

@wonderfox @lowqualityfacts i worry about this A LOT for AI-generated search results.

Like, what's the best paint for my house? How often should I get my hearing checked? Where's the best place to live in the US?

If all you're going to get is a little tube of information-sausage, packed and spiced by Google, ain't no TELLING what they're gonna put in there.

@researchbuzz @wonderfox @lowqualityfacts We're already getting Google Sausage answers and it makes me furious. It's algorithmic promotion. You can't even get a proper boolean search going any more. It pretends it didn't see your quotes and minus signs. 🙄

@_L1vY_ @researchbuzz @wonderfox @lowqualityfacts I've been avoiding Google for the last few years, but you're making me want to go back just to see WTF is going on.

Mostly, I use DuckDuckGo, which doesn't seem to be as spam-infested as what everyone here is talking about

Any other suggestions?

DDG's been my primary search engine for about three years now, and there's nothing else I use often. I also like the DDG browser for Android.
