@petes_bread_eqn_xls Hijacking the thread for my own question:
If you have some sort of central cooling system (west of the 100th meridian)

@timesandseasons @petes_bread_eqn_xls @lydiaschoch Is AC distinct or inclusive of Heat Pumps?

@LoneLocust @petes_bread_eqn_xls AC would be inclusive of heat pumps when they're pumping heat out of the dwelling

@petes_bread_eqn_xls I've got my portable AC running behind me at the moment. Never felt like I needed AC in Seattle until the last few years. My first summer in my apartment when we had the mixture of smoke and heat it got up to 90 degrees inside which was miserable

@jenbanim oof. that’s a terrible situation.

@petes_bread_eqn_xls Should be moving to an apartment with built-in AC this summer 🙏

In Colorado I would vote “Yes, but I only need it a little bit each year”

@petes_bread_eqn_xls yeah we made do with a swamp cooler for years (as did the previous owners) using it only on the hottest days.

@jwilker makes sense. it always freaks out my east coast friends that I keep AC off almost the whole year.

@petes_bread_eqn_xls lol! Yeah growing up in SoCal I’m used to running non stop but love not relying on it

@jwilker @petes_bread_eqn_xls I only ever had a swamp cooler as a kid. There were only a few nights a year that it did not really work well. As an adult, I had a swamp cooler for the last 10 years, but the water is so bad the thing got eaten away from rust, so we switched to an AC unit. What we really need is a thermostat that opens all the windows except when the outside is too hot and then runs the AC or heat if the outside is umcomfortable.. I bet that might save a ton of energy in colorado
