@horuskol My approach here is very pragmatic. It's fine if there's a landmark starting with an h2 before the main content and the h1. The most important thing is that the rest of the outline is well-structured, descriptive and representative.

Thanks. That's pretty much my thinking, too - but then I've had feedback from other people that <h1> is always first.

@horuskol experts or users? There is a big difference between the theoretical ideal and the practical reality. Best practices do not matter if the solution works for users.

Experts - I mean I've heard and read both sides of this. My own experience and testing has been more of inline with that WAI structure.

I just noticed your posts about structure today (I did try to find some good examples for you, but news sites actually seem to be pretty poorly structured), and thought I'd see what your take was on the issue.
