enchantedsleeper,

Is there a way that I can unsubscribe from posts yelling at Tumblr users for not reblogging? Because nothing will stop me from finding them phenomenally obnoxious.

I believe in the power of the reblog; I reblog so much stuff I'm sure my followers are sick of it. But I hate being yelled at or told that I'm "failing" artists/gifmakers/other creators if I don't.

(Also, they never mention fic writers, it's always visual artists and I'm more than a bit salty over that)

sky,

@enchantedsleeper lmao I don't post that much fanfic, but I have never had a single one reblogged

enchantedsleeper,

@sky sad huggle You know, I was having a conversation with a fannish friend about a lack of interaction on Tumblr, and I made the point that my hellsite experience had improved since the NSFW purge (however disastrous it was as a whole) because it's "smaller" now and thus easier to get noticed. My friend seemed to take exception to this idea and suggested it was just to do with different fandoms. But my friend is a fanmix creator, so maybe it's also different fanwork types?

enchantedsleeper,

@sky I know that gifset creators have talked about a downtick in interactions, and maybe my friend has experienced that as well, which is why they weren't on board with the idea that post-purge Tumblr is more sociable. I'll never know what it was like to be a gifset creator circa 2014, of course. But for me personally, it feels a lot less like yelling into a void

sky,

@enchantedsleeper I have personally never had a time on Tumblr where it didn't feel like yelling into a void. Honestly have no idea how anyone ever made connections on it in the first place lol, and I've been there since 2008. But my main fannish stuff was always RP and meta (not even meta so much as informal discussion really)

It was baffling to me when everybody in the popular fandoms moved to Twitter and somehow considered that even better

alis,

@sky @enchantedsleeper Whenever I’ve been even mildly “Tumblr popular” there was always a parasocial aspect to it. Basically having done a thing people liked, so they came to ask box me about it, and the more other people saw that the more they also started, and so on. But it was all contingent on that initial “thing”, which was always very… happened to be in the right place at the right time-esque.

enchantedsleeper,

@alis @sky I see fic writers who get asks and I'm very 🥺 because I wanna talk about my fic and writing process! But then I realised I can just post ask responses on my Dreamwidth for my own edification and if someone feels like reading it, they can :D
